KODAK, Tenn. — As the Smokies prepare to move to their new stadium in Knoxville, they're cleaning out the old Kodak stadium. The team is hosting a yard sale on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Items for sale include jerseys, suite furniture, concession stands and more. Prices range from $2 to $500. Chris Allen, president and COO of Boyd Sports, said things are priced to sell.
"The more stuff we sell the less we have to move ourselves," Allen said. "We realize that this stuff, it's just a table or it's just signage. It might not mean much to most people, but for a lot of our fans it might mean something to them."
Allen and Richie Juliano, outside events coordinator, said it's important to give back to the community this way.
"We wanted the community that supported this team to be able to purchase some of their favorite memorabilia from this ballpark, whether it would be suite tables or jerseys that we still have in stock," Juliano said. Different things that this area that has supported us for so long would really enjoy with this team leaving."
While the sale doesn't start until Saturday, fans were already coming out to the stadium to see what's available.
Zach Haire, a lifelong fan, said he wants to keep a piece of the stadium he's supported the team from for so long.
"I've been a fan, gosh, my whole life. I remember going to games as a kid down at Bill Meyer in Knoxville and then they moved up here 20 years or so ago," Haire said. "I've been a season ticket holder here for four or five years. I try to come to as many games as I can. I watched them through all the big prospects they had, their championship and everything."
Haire said while it'll be nice to have the team back in Knoxville, he wants something from Kodak to hold onto.
"It'll be kind of cool, being a fan for so long to see if there is any type of Smokies memorabilia to have from their time up here to have as a keepsake to remember all the years and games," he said.
Allen said they are expecting a few hundred people to come out over the weekend.
