Sunbright tornado victims credit neighbor for saving their lives

"She was able to push herself to right here and that's when debris and everything started hitting her feet and she tumbled with the baby," Noah Hamby said.

SUNBRIGHT, Tenn. — One family that barely escaped alive from the Sunbright tornado, said a neighbor saved their lives.

Noah Hamby's home was struck by the EF-1 tornado on Apri 2, with parts of the family home's roof falling onto the bed where his children sleep. Noah and his family ran through a neighbor's yard in an attempt to go to the neighbor's cellar just as the tornado took full effect, knocking down Alexis Hamby and her baby.

Noah watched his wife and kids fight against the wind before he was able to reach out and grab her by the hood of her jacket.

"She was able to push herself to right here and that's when debris and everything started hitting her feet and she just tumbled with the baby, " Noah said.

As he grabbed his wife, his neighbor grabbed him and helped to pull them all down into the cellar, Noah said.

"He grabbed her and I grabbed him and I just drug all four of them into the basement," said Kevin Daniels, the neighbor.

Noah and Daniels said that if anything had played out a second later, they would have seen a very different outcome.

"It feels good knowing that I helped them. But I mean, any normal person would," Daniels said.

If it wasn't for their neighbor's quick thinking, the Hambys said they don't feel as if they would still be here today.

"We actually survived that tornado, we were outside in that tornado, and if it wasn't for our neighbor and the grace of God," said Alexis.

The Hambys also said they are very grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.\
