KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The National Weather Service said a tornado that ripped through the Sunbright community in Morgan County was preliminarily ranked as an EF-1.
The NWS survey team said the tornado reached maximum winds of 105 mph and was approximately 100 yards wide. It traveled for 2.8 miles.
The Tornado Warning was issued for the area around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. At one point, the National Weather Service issued a Particularly Dangerous Situation Alert once confirmation was received that a tornado was on the ground.
Despite the damage, Morgan County Executive Brian Langley said no one was hurt or killed in the storm. He said a younger girl did suffer some minor injuries, but said it was "nothing major."
An official statement with additional specifics regarding the tornado will be released by the NWS before 4 p.m. EST.
