KPD issues over 500 citations during enhanced school zone patrol

Officers conducted enhanced enforcement in active school zones from Aug. 8 through Aug. 23, the Knoxville Police Department said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department said it issued 516 citations during enhanced school zone traffic enforcement. 

Officers conducted enhanced enforcement in active school zones throughout Knoxville from Aug. 8 through Aug. 23, according to KPD. The first day of school for Knox County students was Aug. 8. 

The enforcement focused on addressing dangerous driving in Knoxville school zones. 337 speeding citations were issued and 207 warnings were issued, KPD said. 

A 16-year-old Knox County Schools student was hospitalized on the first day of school after she was hit by a car while waiting at a school bus stop. 

"Slow down, pay attention and drive carefully in active school zones," KPD said.
