Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park — The Great Smoky Mountains National Park Service announced several road closures throughout the area due to winter weather.
In a post to social media, National Park Service leaders said Laurel Creek Road, Cades Cove Loop Road, the new section of Foothills Parkway West and Upper Tremont Road will close at 6 p.m. Thursday. Staff will reassess conditions Friday morning as weather permits.
Earlier in the day Thursday, they said U.S. 441/Newfound Gap Road between Gatlinburg and Cherokee will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for some parts of the Smokies until 10 a.m. Friday.
Snow showers are expected to develop in the mountains late in the day Thursday and after sunset, with a few flurries also possible in the lower elevations late tonight and into tomorrow morning.
