KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 7 Tennessee had no issues in Week 3 on Saturday against Kent State inside Neyland Stadium, winning 71-0.
Tennessee put up 65 points in the first half, a program record. The previous record of 52 points came in the first half of Tennessee's 65-24 victory over UT Martin on Oct. 22, 2022.
The Vols also broke a program record in the first half, scoring 37 points, the most points scored in any quarter in program history. The previous record of 35 points came in a 62-20 home win over Arkansas on Nov. 11, 2000.
Dylan Sampson led the way on offense with 101 rushing yards and four touchdowns, on his birthday. Behind him, DeSean Bishop notched 120 rushing yards for two touchdowns. Through the air, Nico Iamaleava threw for 10-16, 173 yards and one touchdown. Iamaleava's biggest throw off the night went to Chris Brazzell II, a 53-yard dime to put the Vols up 23-0.
In the second quarter, Tennessee's backups were in and found the endzone. Gaston Moore hit Miles Kitselman for his first career touchdown at Tennessee, which made it 58-0.
Mike Matthews also scored his first career touchdown off an 18-yard throw from Gaston Moore, that scoring drive put the Vols up 65-0.
Tennessee will take its 3-0 record to Norman, Oklahoma for a matchup against the Sooners. College GameDay announced their broadcast crew will make the trip as well. Kick-off is slated for Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
