LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — Lenoir City High School announced Monday that head football coach Scott Cummings has resigned.

The school said Cummings is transitioning to an athletic director position in Knox County. It is unknown at this time which school he is transitioning to.

Cummings was first announced as the new head coach in December 2023 after Gary Dugger was removed for unprofessional conduct.

Before coming to Lenoir City, his last head coaching gig was at Oak Ridge High School in 2022 for one season. His coaching career began in the 1990s as a volunteer assistant, but in 2002, he first became a head coach at West.

In 2014, Cummings led the team to a State Championship title. The following year he moved to Cleveland and took over as head coach at Cleveland High School. He was there for four years before taking a head coaching job at Halls for the next three years.

Cummings has coached a team to the state semifinals in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. His team made state championship appearances in 2013 and 2014. He has 22 years of head coaching experience.

The search for the Panthers' next head coach is underway.
