New court date set for 2 people charged in Tennessee National Guardsman's 2019 death

Amanda Bishop, the victim's wife, and Eric Byrd, her distant cousin, both appeared in court on Monday.

LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn — Loudon County deputies arrested them last week, almost five years after Jacob Bishop's death. Eric Byrd is still being held in Loudon County Jail. His defense said Tuesday Byrd will be transported to Wilson County for violation of an unrelated charge. It is unknown how long he will stay in Wilson.

They were charged with first-degree murder in the 2019 death of Jacob Bishop. He was found dead on Oct. 1, 2019, in his home. He was shot several times and bound with zip ties. Police say Amanda and Jacob Bishop were having a custody battle at the time of his death.

Bishop posted her $1 million bond on Aug. 15th and is no longer in custody. The sheriff's office said there were no pre-trial conditions for Bishop to wear an ankle monitor.

Today, the state asked the judge to consider Bishop and Byrd to wear ankle monitors. They argued Byrd has been charged with four DUIs since 2019 and they're worried about how he'll react if let out. Byrd's defense said he has stayed in East Tennessee for the past five years, and the $1 million bond would be enough for him to continue appearing in court.

Bishop's defense said she should not have to wear the monitor since she is already out on bond.

The judge ruled both to wear the GPS monitors until further proof is given. He said if evidence is sufficient they will keep the monitors.

Bishop and Byrd will appear back in court on Sept. 30.
