ALCOA, Tenn. — McGhee Tyson Airport will soon have a new airline and destination added to its roster.
The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority said it will make an announcement with Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon and an unnamed representative, teasing a new airline that will fly a new, unserved route from the airport.
The MKAA said it will announce which airline will be coming to East Tennessee on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
The airport has moved forward with several projects and expansions in recent years as it continues to see record-breaking growth. Most recently, it began expanding parking.
"We are adding a new parking garage that will add 3,500 spaces, approximately, and the garage space here," Caitlin Darras with the airport said. “We're going from the parking garage all the way to the concourse with improvements here in the terminal building, we are also planning to add six additional gates."
The airport said it plans to complete the parking garage expansion by 2026. After that, it said it plans to add six new gates by 2028. Darras said the long-term plan includes adding 20 to 30 new gates.
Currently, five airlines offer flights from TYS: United, Delta, American, Allegiant and Frontier. Below are the destinations the airport currently offers:
