KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — McGhee Tyson Airport will close a portion of its long-term parking lots on Monday, Feb. 5 to start working on its Parking Garage Expansion Project.
The airport said there will be limited parking in the Long-Term Lot, but people will still have full access to the Short-Term Lot.
"The Parking Garage Expansion Project is the first of many construction projects that are aimed at elevating the passenger experience and accommodating continued airport growth," McGhee Tyson Airport said.
The new parking garage will be six stories and will add 3,500 convenient parking spots adjacent to the terminal building, according to a release. With the partial closure of the parking lot, the airport will be opening Economy Lot C, located near the new Hunt Road/Tyson Center intersection.
Economy Lot C has more than 1,000 parking spaces available with a 24-hour shuttle service that can transport passengers and guests to and from the airport terminal building. The estimated time on the shuttle from the new lot is 15 minutes.
A McGhee Tyson Airport official told WBIR that 672 spaces are closing in long-term parking during the expansion project. However, over 2,000 garage spaces will remain open in both long-term and short-term parking.
