MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — The staff at the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society took in dozens of dogs on Friday, while also managing a quarantine due to a parvo case and a separate influx of animals that needed help.

The humane society said on social media it took in 29 dogs and puppies from animal control and said the animals had no choice but to go to the humane society. While staff works on getting them settled in and figuring out the kind of care they need, they will also continue caring for five other large dogs that were brought in on Thursday.

Those dogs had been found living in a home with a dead person and needed medical attention. At the same time, a separate puppy was diagnosed with parvo and the humane society had to enter quarantine to protect the safety of its other animals.

"This is obviously a very challenging time for our shelter since we are so full and dealing with sickness," it said on social media.

In total, the humane society said it recently took in 34 dogs, a rabbit and two cats were heading its way. It said two animals are positive for heartworm, and at least two have cherry eyes. Several have lost skin and others have infections. One is deaf, another has a heart murmur, another animal has a bad knee and another has bad hips, the humane society said.

"We desperately need help. We are facing thousands of dollars for medical care for these dogs alone," the humane society said on social media.
