MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — Five large dogs were found living in a home with a dead person, and the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society said Wednesday it took them in, while also managing a lack of space and an ongoing parvo quarantine.

It said it is working to get its outside yards weather-proofed and needed doghouses, tarps and zip ties so the dogs could safely stay outside the building. On social media, the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society said the dogs were in rough condition, with nails so long they had difficulty walking and three appeared to have ear infections.

"They are scared. They are filthy. The smell of them will knock you off your feet," the humane society said on social media. "We are thankful that their body conditions are good and they have clearly been well fed. Once they settle down we will be able to get a much better look at them but we definitely know they will need medical care."

It said one dog had diarrhea problems, and another elderly dog appeared to have several health concerns.

The humane society also said Wednesday it saw a new case of parvo. It said the animal diagnosed with parvo was being treated to give her the best chance of survival, but it was still on parvo quarantine and so the humane society could not risk bringing the big dogs inside the building.
