MEIGS COUNTY, Tenn. — Tabitha Smith, 35, died after she was taken into custody by a Meigs County deputy who then drove into the Tennessee River. The deputy, Robert "RJ" Leonard, died too.

A celebration of life for Smith is set for Feb. 24 at Burdette Baptist Church. Her family will receive family and friends from 1 p.m. through 3 p.m., followed by the celebration of life, according to Smith's obituary.

After the service, she will be laid to rest, the obituary said.

It describes her as a woman who loved music, cooking as well as spending time with people — especially her four children.

"She was known by many and will be dearly missed," the obituary said.

Burdette Baptist Church is located at 1910 Bythe Ferry Lane in Birchwood.

A memorial ride for Smith has also been scheduled for Saturday, March 9 in Decatur. The event is open to the public, and vehicles including bikes, cars and trucks are all welcome to ride. A $20 donation is also encouraged, with proceeds going to Smith's family. Participants meet at 10 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club in Decatur.
