Maryville City Schools, Blount County Schools and Alcoa City Schools closing early Wednesday ahead of fallen deputy's procession

Blount County Sheriff's Office Deputy Greg McCowan's funeral is taking place Wednesday afternoon.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — All three Blount County school districts said that they will be closing early on Wednesday.

The closures come after the Maryville Police Department announced road closures for fallen Blount County Sheriff's Office Deputy Greg McCowan's procession.

Maryville City Schools will let out exactly 90 minutes earlier than usual and after-school clubs will begin when school lets out.

Blount County Schools said elementary schools will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. Middle and high schools will dismiss at 1 p.m.

Alcoa City Schools said AES and AIS will dismiss at 12:30. AMS and AHS will dismiss at 1:00.

MCS said the road closures will prohibit transportation during the usual dismissal time. The early dismissal prevents students from being stuck on a bus or in a car due to limited routes.

The early dismissal will also allow students and families to participate in the procession, MCS said.

"We stand Blount County Strong with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and lift them up during this challenging time," BCS said.
