BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — Blount County Deputy Greg McCowan was shot and killed in the line of duty Thursday evening during a traffic stop. Since his passing, the community has paid tribute to the deputy by placing flowers on his patrol car in front of the Justice Center.
According to the obituary from Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, McCowan's family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sevier Heights Baptist Church.
The funeral service, with full police honors, will be on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. at Sevier Heights Baptist Church. An interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
The public is welcome to sign the guest book on Monday, Feb. 12 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office is inviting people to stand along safe portions of the procession route after the funeral from Sevier Heights Baptist Church to Grandview Cemetary in Maryville as McCowan is taken to his final resting place on Wednesday, which is anticipated to start around 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. BCSO said the procession will take Alcoa Highway southbound to Hall Road before turning on Tuckaleechee Pike in Maryville.
"If you choose to pay your respects to Deputy McCowan and his family by standing along the procession route, please choose a safe area away from traffic," BCSO said. "Sheriff James Lee Berrong would like to thank you for your patience, support, and condolences."
