KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — People who buy food or drinks at Kern's Food Hall may soon get a unique QR code they can scan to avoid parking fees. Once scanned, they will be able to park for free. It's part of a new parking system the food hall is rolling out after it went back on plans to introduce a paid system for everyone who parks there.
On Friday, it said people who buy something will get a QR code they can scan to park for free. People who don't buy anything will also still be able to park for up to two hours for free.
After two hours Kern's Food Hall said it would start charging for parking. People can pay $5 to park for up to four hours, or $10 to park for up to 12 hours.
The validation system comes after Kern's Food Hall decided not to implement previous paid parking plans. In the original plans, it said the fee would help the food hall improve parking lot maintenance and security while upgrading amenities and services.
The updated plan also does not change the fees for game days. Regardless of whether Tennessee Football is playing, the fees will remain the same, the food hall said on social media.
