KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Kern's Food Hall said on Aug. 29 that it planned to start charging fees for people to stay parked for longer than two hours on most days. On Tuesday, the food hall decided to suspend those plans indefinitely and find another way to generate revenue.
The food hall said in August the new fees would help "maintain a high level of service and facilities upkeep along with deterring long-term term parking." It said by charging a fee, the food hall could improve parking lot maintenance and security, enhance traffic management and upgrade amenities and services.
When it opened, the food hall allowed visitors to park for free. The new fees would have let people park for free for up to two hours. After that, they will be charged $5. If they park longer than four hours, they will be charged $10.
Its original plans also called for additional parking fees on game days, when Tennessee Football plays in Neyland Stadium. The food hall also decided it's no longer planning to implement game day fees.
