WHITE PINE, Tenn. — The White Pine Police Department said the suspect who allegedly ran over a man with a tractor-trailer in January was arrested Friday.
On Jan. 12, at around 6:32 p.m., Gary Clark was walking through the parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center at 3663 Roy Messer Highway in White Pine when he was run over. His body wasn't discovered until 6:50 p.m., according to the WPPD.
An investigation showed that the driver of the tractor-trailer, John Emery Jr., went inside the store after running over Clark, the WPPD said.
When Emery Jr. returned to the tractor-trailer, other drivers told him that someone had been run over behind his truck and that he needed to stay. He decided to leave the parking lot and head south on I-81, according to the WPPD.
The department said Emery Jr. was identified by investigators, who turned over the case to the district attorney's office to determine what charges would be filed.
After the investigation was completed on Jan. 29, a warrant was issued against Emery Jr. for leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury, according to the WPPD.
Emery Jr. was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, the WPPD said.
