CLINTON, Tenn. — The wife of a former Anderson County Schools principal has resigned from her position as the head guidance counselor, according to a resignation letter dated June 24.
Carrie Jenkins is married to Dan Jenkins, a former Clinton High School principal who resigned in April amid a grade-fixing scandal that involved a football player at the school. Carrie was also suspended pending an investigation, and the school's contract with head football coach Darrell Keith was not renewed.
Carrie said she joined Anderson County Schools in 2009 as a school counselor at Clinton High School, eager to work at her alma mater.
"I got to work in a team with three experienced counselors and professional classified staff in our office, and I learned so much from each of them personally and professionally. My husband and I never had any issues working together as colleagues and always conducted ourselves in a professional manner," she said in her resignation letter.
She said she spent more than 15 years working at Clinton High School and said she worked under four different head principals. She said in 2020, her husband received calls asking if he would apply for the job.
"I watched each leader give their heart, body and soul to that school, but still receiving much criticism, comparison and the constant 'you should do this better,'" the letter said. "My point is this: we did not ask for this. This was not some mastermind scheme like the narrative that has been suggested. You asked us to work together to make Clinton High School the best it could be amid unfathomable obstacles."
The TSSAA fined Clinton High School and the school had to forfeit wins from the 2023 football season after the grade-fixing scandal involving the football player that may have made him ineligible to play. However, the school asked to reinstate those wins after finding the athlete was actually eligible to play.
