Beach in the mountains? Anakeesta bringing truckloads of sand, 'supersize' topiary couch

The park is bringing in an East Tennessee artist's giant leafy, living "couch" -- and quite a bit of beachy decor.

GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Are you planning to spend Spring Break on the couch? There's a new way to do that in East Tennessee.

Anakeesta is bringing in a "living sculpture" of a huge leafy couch by Tellico Plains artist "Topiary Joe." Anakeesta spokesperson said Topiary Joe has worked with a list of high-profile clients, like Google, Disney World. Some of his sculptures have made it all the way to England!

The 8-foot-by-12-foot sculpture will be on display in Anakeesta's Plaza along Gatlinburg Parkway from March 13 to 18.

The park said it's transforming into a beach getaway in the Smokies for Spring Break. That includes truckloads of sand, palm trees, flower beds, colorful tables, beach chairs, a vintage Volkswagen Beetle and a beach shack.

The park said it will donate $1 of every admission sold from March 13 to 15 to the Gatlinburg Rotary Club.
