Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park — People can still mostly enjoy a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, according to a post the park made on social media.
It said programs on the Tennessee side of the mountains were continuing mostly as scheduled. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the park said some of its visitor centers and roads had briefly closed. On Tuesday, the park said all its visitor centers were back open.
It also said programs on the Tennessee side of the mountains were continuing mostly as scheduled. However, nearly all programs on the North Carolina side were canceled, including programs on Kuwohi. It said only the Mountain Farm Museum demonstrations and Oconaluftee Visitor Center porch talks would continue.
An adaptive hike originally scheduled for Oct. 5 was also canceled, due to the unpredictability of creek crossings and the possibility of hazardous trees.
Visitors can see which specific programs are open or closed on the National Park Service website.
