BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — A former Blount County Schools teacher is behind bars in Georgia in connection to an ongoing investigation involving sex crimes against children, according to investigators.
The Blount County Sheriff's Office confirmed Shane H. Rewis, 51, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
The Maryville man was indicted on seven counts by a Blount County grand jury earlier this month.
He faces two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, trafficking for a commercial sex act, three counts of exploitation of a minor by electronic means and sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to a press release, the sheriff's office started to investigate Rewis in May after two girls reported Rewis contacted them "by way of electronic means" with inappropriate comments and photos. Deputies said they discovered a third female juvenile victim over the course of the months-long investigation.
Blount County investigators, U.S. Marshals and the Southeast Regional Task Force arrested Rewis without incident Tuesday morning at a home in Seminole County, Georgia. He'll remain in Georgia pending extradition to Tennessee for his charges.
