KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE (6/18): The Knoxville Police Department has taken the suspect in the stabbing at 427 E. East Oldham Ave. on Monday morning into custody. KPD said it found 50-year-old Virgil Belin in woods near the area of North Broadway and Powers Street.
The victim was identified as 44-year-old Michelle Dresch, according to Knoxville Police.
Authorities were alerted about 8:40 a.m. Monday about a woman being attacked at the home.
Police found Dresch in a back bedroom with multiple stab wounds, according to the warrant. She was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the investigation so far, people identified as "witnesses/roommates" heard Dresch and Belin arguing from their bedroom.
"The witnesses heard a scuffle and the victim screaming while the defendant stated, 'You brought this on yourself,' " the warrant states.
Witnesses saw Belin run from the back of the house.
He's charged with first-degree murder.
Property records show Dresch owned the house.
In December, a man was shot and killed there. Court records list Dresch as a witness in that killing.

One woman was found mortally wounded in a home on East Oldham Avenue Monday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
KPD said at around 8:40 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 400 block of East Oldham Avenue to investigate a stabbing. After arriving at the scene, KPD found a woman who had been stabbed at least one time, according to police.
She was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
The home at 427 Oldham Avenue was the site of a different killing late last year. 10News reported in December 2023 that a person was shot at a home on East Oldham Avenue. According to an arrest warrant from KPD, Stefen White shot and killed someone after an argument over dog excrement.
"The victim and the defendant (White) got into a verbal altercation over the defendant not cleaning up after his dogs pooped in the yard," the documents said.
At this time, KPD is pursuing strong leads in the stabbing investigation. This is a developing story.
