KPD: Argument over dog waste leads to fatal North Knoxville shooting

About 6 p.m., officers responded to East Oldham Avenue on the report of a shooting with a victim, Knoxville police said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE:  An argument over dog excrement led a Knoxville man to shoot and kill another person over the weekend, according to an arrest warrant from the Knoxville Police Department.

Stefen White, 34, was being held in Knox County custody. He appeared in court on Dec. 28 and is due back on Jan. 11, 2024.

The warrant said White shot and killed the unnamed victim after an argument at a home on East Oldham Avenue around 6 p.m. on Saturday. They lived in the same home, according to a warrant.

"The victim and the defendant (White) got into a verbal altercation over the defendant not cleaning up after his dogs pooped in the yard," the documents said.

According to police, White pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the chest. Responding officers attempted to save the victim's life. They were later pronounced dead as a result of their wounds.

White told police the victim hit him in the face, but police said witness statements didn't back that claim up.
