KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville man will stand trial for murder in the killing this year of a former co-worker at a transportation yard.
A grand jury indicted Daniel Arwood, 38, for first-degree murder, evading arrest and illegal possession of a weapon. He'll now face trial in Knox County Criminal Court.
Authorities say he shot and killed Aaron L. Russell, 29, in February at an automotive transport facility where they worked off Middlebrook Pike. The facility featured a number of Knox County school buses.
According to police, Russell had fired Arwood the prior week. Arwood had allegedly been living on the property and was supposed to have left after his employment was terminated.
A witness told officers they saw the interaction between Arwood and Russell. The witness said they heard Russell scream, "No," and then saw Arwood shoot him with a shotgun, according to a KPD police report.
Russell tried to run but Arwood shot him again, according to a warrant.
Arwood fled the scene in a vehicle and was seen running into woods, where officers eventually arrested him.
Arwood is a convicted felon. He's being held in the Knox County jail.
