Amazon hiring 1,000 extra people in Knoxville ahead of the holidays

Amazon also said its front-line team would get an additional $1.50 per hour starting in October.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Amazon said it would hire around 1,000 more people in Knoxville ahead of the holidays, as it works to add more full-time, part-time and seasonal positions to its workforce.

It said the new positions are part of a nationwide effort to hire 250,000 more workers. In a release, the company also said its front-line team would also get at least $1.50 per hour more on their paychecks.

It also said the pay boost would bring the average base wage up to more than $22 per hour. On its website, the company said all seasonal employees earn at least $18 per hour and have access to health benefits.

Anyone interested in applying for a job with Amazon can apply online.

Amazon said its Knoxville facility, located where the East Towne Mall once stood, was ready to ramp up operations in early September. It said job openings would be posted on a rolling basis for anyone interested in working at the site.

The company also has facilities in the Alcoa area, including a distribution center. Around 200 trucks were estimated to use the facility per day.
