Halliburton said the Parks and Rec Department partnered with a private contractor to complete the repairs.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The splash pad at Carl Cowan Park has reopened and appears set to finish the summer fully operational. This comes after broken parts and delays during repair closed the pad for much of the summer.

Faulty hoses are to blame for the closure said Justin Halliburton, the Park Maintenance Director for the Knox County Department of Parks and Recreation. Halliburton said the hoses were, "losing prime," unable to create enough suction to take water from a reservoir tank, through the underground hoses, then into the air at the splash pad.

He said the department thanked all Knox County residents for being patient as the repairs were finished. He said certified technicians are monitoring the pad. It will remain open until about Sept. 15.

With daytime temperatures expected to break at least 90 degrees for the rest of the week, West Knox County residents have a chance to beat the heat while still having fun in the sun.
