KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Cookeville man returns home with $100,000 and a record deal after winning on The Voice.
Jake Hoot moved to Cookeville when he was 20, after learning Spanish and how to play the guitar in the Dominican Republic. He played football for Tennessee Tech and scheduled performing gigs before going on to sing on the 17th season of The Voice.
Hoot's first performance was with "When it Rains it Pours" by Luke Combs. It only earned one chair turn but since then he emerged as a powerful singer.
"I never thought I would be able to do music full time, so looking at it now, I'm ready to rock and roll," Hoot said.
He also said that he wanted to make his daughter proud after he went through a divorce. Now, he will return home with a budding career as a musician.
