10Weather Impact Alert: Flash Flood Warning issued in Central Knox County, Knoxville area

During Flash Flood Warnings, people should make sure not to drive through floodwater. To stay safe, people should remember the saying, "Turn around, don't drown."

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Central Knox County Wednesday afternoon.

Storms have intermittently moved through the area this week, some bringing strong rain. The National Weather Service said up to 1.5 inches of rain has fallen in the Knoxville area, with an additional inch possible.

People should use extreme caution on the roads and make sure never to drive through floodwaters. The NWS urges people to turn around if they see high water on the road. It also said areas that can see flash flooding include Oak Ridge, Alcoa, Farragut, Lousiville, Rockford, Halls, Bearden, Powell, Karns, Lake Forest, Maloneyville, Mascot and Knoxville.

Flash flooding can impact areas with small creeks and streams, as well as urban areas and streets that have poor drainage.
