KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — There is still about three weeks left before Winter officially ends, but Spring will win out over the battle with Winter for the first half of the week.

High temperatures will be near 70 degrees through Wednesday which is about ten to fifteen degrees warmer than the average. Also, rain chances will be increasing late Monday with the best chance for widespread heavier rain by Wednesday.

Overnight Monday, off and on scattered rain showers will dot the countryside of east Tennessee and continue through Tuesday with light amounts expected to be around a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch at best. Unfortunately, sunshine will be limited, but not completely absent.

Wednesday a cold front will be approaching with a line of showers and perhaps some embedded thunder, but at this time, it is not expected that there will be organized severe storms. Winds will increase with gusts from 30 to 40 mph possible while heavy downpours could provide an inch to an inch and a half of rain.

On the back side of the rain, a wintery mix will quickly move through with no accumulation expected outside of higher elevations above 3 to 4 thousand feet. Don't put the coats in storage yet because temps will plunge to lows near freezing both Thursday and Friday morning and highs will only reach the middle to low 50s. The cooldown will be brief because temps will warm back into the 60s for highs going into the weekend. Hope you have a terrific week!
