Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park — Newfound Gap Road will close between Gatlinburg and Cherokee, North Carolina in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park due to the threat of snow and ice overnight.
The higher elevations of the mountains in Blount, Sevier and Cocke counties could see snow accumulate above 4,000 feet. People should avoid traveling in the shaded area seen below.
The National Park Service said it is closing Newfound Gap Road/U.S. 441 starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The road will remain closed until crews can assess road conditions on Wednesday morning.
