MARYVILLE, Tenn. — People have a place to go in Maryville where they can stay warm and safe as cold weather moves into East Tennessee.
The First Baptist Church of Maryville opened a warming shelter Monday at 7 p.m. and is expected to serve evening meals along with breakfast in the morning. The church will also be open Tuesday night at the same time, serving meals once again while giving people a place to stay warm.
The church is located at 202 West Lamar Alexander Pkwy.
People in Knoxville are also able to go to the Knox Area Rescue Ministries to stay warm during cold weather. The nonprofit's shelter is located at 418 North Broadway.
A cold front was forecast to move into the area, bringing blustery conditions and flurries in some areas. Tuesday morning temperatures, as of around 7 a.m., are mostly expected to stay under 20 degrees as wind chills and some gusts contribute to brisk conditions overnight.
