Flooding covers roads in Knox County, causes water main break in downtown Knoxville

There's high water in the usual trouble spots across the county.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE: KPD said as of noon today, the following road closures were in place: 

- Concord St. between Painter and Safety City

- 6th Ave near Hall of Fame

- Third Creek between Hinton and Middle Creek

- Eastbound lane closure at 8330 Kingston Pike

Flooding has been reported in parts of Knox County after heavy rain early Sunday morning.

There's high water in the usual trouble spots across the county.

Flooding also likely caused a water main break in downtown Knoxville. KUB posted on Facebook that crews were responding to the intersection at S. Gay St. and Union Ave. The road was expected to be closed for much of the day.

Knox County dispatchers reported several water-covered roads at 8 a.m. across the area.

  • Bud McMillan Road at Ellistown Road
  • Ball Camp Pike at Johnson Road
  • Tipton Station Road and Rule Road
  • I-40 East by North Campbell Station Road
  • 2943 North Central Street
  • Alcoa Highway at John Sevier
  • Carnation Drive at Clifton Road
  • Cedar Lane at Knox Road
  • 5th Ave and North Hall of Fame Drive
  • Kingston Pike at North Gallaher View Road
  • Sullivan at Western Avenue

The rain is tapering off and should be clear by midday on Sunday.

High water was also reported in several other East Tennessee counties.
