ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine is deploying a mobile medical unit to help pets affected by Helene in Carter County.

The college's mobile veterinary clinic will be at the Tractor Supply at 210 Cherokee Park Drive in Elizabethton between Oct. 9 and Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. UT said the clinic will close for a break daily for 30 minutes at 1 p.m.

The mobile clinic will provide care for sick or injured animals with minor conditions, as well as check pets for illnesses and refer them to local clinics if needed.

People with pets needing care should register before 3 p.m. each day. UT asked that people bring a maximum of two pets per person each day.

“Providing veterinary services for sick or injured pets is an important part of the recovery from Hurricane Helene,” said Dr. Becky Debolt, clinical associate professor of shelter medicine at UTCVM. “Pets are an important part of our lives, and we hope our work helps strengthen the human-animal bond in these challenging times.”
