UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. — Communities in upper East Tennessee and North Carolina are still wondering when they may see regular shipments of fuel — around a week after Hurricane Helene tore through the area.

Pilot Flying J said it is trying to deliver needed gas and supplies to them. In the meantime, those communities are rationing supplies and trying to make their supply of gas last as long as possible.

"Our first focus is on the safety of our team. We want to be there for the community, but we want to make sure it's safe to bring things back up and that there's no flooding. Once the safety is set it's a huge logistical effort, with fuel first. We've brought fuel in from all over the country," said Jordan Spradling, a spokesperson for the company.

The company said its Waynesville, North Carolina, store remained closed Thursday evening as the company works to recover from the hurricane. Spradling also thanks drivers who were headed to the devastated regions, bringing much-needed supplies.
