TENNESSEE, USA — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has announced that it will offer financial assistance with disaster-related childcare costs in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

In a press release Tuesday, FEMA announced that Tennessee families affected by Hurricane Helene with children under the age of 13 may be eligible for assistance through their Other Needs Assistance Program. The announcement comes amid the rising costs of childcare services, with modern expenses comparable to a year's rent in parts of the state, FEMA says.

Assistance for qualified families will be limited to $200 per child for up to eight weeks. Residents of Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties are eligible and must apply by Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Households with children up to 21 years old who have a disability and need help with daily activities may also be eligible for disaster-related expenses.

To apply for FEMA aid click here, or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Lines are open from 7 a.m. to midnight ET.
