Due to the severe drought conditions in East Tennessee, Gatlinburg has issued a burn ban for the city.
The city's fire department decided the dry conditions and increased fuel load from fall foliage is creating potentially hazardous fire conditions.
Officials plan to re-evaluate conditions on November 15 to decide whether to end the ban. The fire department won't be issuing any burn permits until the ban is lifted.
However, campgrounds can allow campfires as long as it is enclosed and contained with fire rings or other barrier materials.
Knox County put its own open burning ban in effect on Tuesday and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has banned all backcountry fires.
The Smokies ban only applies to campers in the park's 100+ backcountry sites and shelters. Backpacking stoves are still allowed.
