KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Bitter cold and icy conditions will impact East Tennessee and surrounding areas by Friday into the weekend.
FRIDAY: An arctic cold front moved through the area Thursday night. Temperatures continue to plummet behind the arctic frontal boundary. Travel could still be impacted through the holiday weekend. Give yourself plenty of time to get out on the road.
In addition to the bitterly cold arctic air, winds will pick up with wind gusts over 40mph+ expected. These types of wind gusts could create possible power outages.
Highs will only be in the single digits and mid teens Friday afternoon.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Lows dip down to the single digits but with the gusty winds, feels-like temperatures could be in the negatives.
SAT: Bitter cold sticks around. Highs in the low 20s. Lows in the single digits. Motly sunny skies likely.
SUN: Another cold day. Highs in the upper 20s. Lows in the low teens.
