Extremely cold weather can be brutal, but also beautiful, like at Bald River Falls in Monroe County.
The frigid air has turned much of the 90-foot waterfall into a crystal cascade with icy avenues of rushing rapids. Even the nearby trees and grass are frozen over, thanks to the spray from the rushing water.
A lot of folks make a special winter trip to the falls to see them when they are frozen over.
