KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — People in Knoxville are taking to the roads and the skies for their spring break travels. Experts said Tennesseans are heading south to Florida and west to the national parks for vacation.
"We also see that outdoor type trips like national parks, state parks are also very popular," Megan Cooper, AAA spokesperson, said. "So we get a mix of where Tennesseans are traveling, but by far and large, the beach and warm weather destinations continue to be the most popular places."
AAA survey said 85% of Tennesseeans plan to travel this year and 45% said they plan on taking more vacations than the previous years.
Those heading to Mcghee Tyson Airport should also be prepared for heavy traffic and potentially limited parking.
"Making a plan ahead of time will save you time when you get to the airport because you'll know where you need to go," Becky Huckaby, an airport spokesperson, said. "We are also seeing limited parking availability. And sometimes it means that you don't necessarily get to park right in the terminal parking garage because it might be full."
They said as you travel for spring break this year, don't forget one important piece of luggage.
"Especially during the summer and spring break travel seasons when more people are traveling, be sure to pack your patience," Huckaby said.
