CAMPBELL COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation said at least two separate wrecks were reported in the same timeframe Monday evening on I-75 in Campbell County. The highway was shut down in both directions past Howard Baker Highway.
The Campbell County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security said the two wrecks involved commercial vehicles and were related to the weather. Frigid conditions were reported across East Tennessee, which brought snow in the higher elevations.
Pictures shared by Campbell County authorities showed the highway covered in a layer of snow. In one crash, a tractor-trailer appeared to have gone off the road. Another image of a separate crash showed a tractor-trailer that appeared to have been stopped while hauling a trailer. Both were reported at around 10:24 p.m. Eastern Time.
Another crash was reported in the same area around 10 minutes later but was quickly cleared, according to TDOT.
All drivers should use extreme caution while driving through snow, such as by slowing down and leaving extra room between them and other vehicles.
