KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A 35-year-old man from Knoxville was charged with speeding, fleeing from authorities, DUI and driving on a revoked license Saturday after the Tennessee Highway Patrol said he crashed into another car while trying to drive away from authorities.
Officials said Cory Steven Adkins was charged after crashing into a car at the intersection of Andrew Johnson Highway and Pleasant Hill Road. They said he was driving a Chrysler Sebring when entered a crossover lane and continued into the southbound lanes and hit a Honda Accord.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office said Adkins was going 103 mph in a 55 mph zone. They said as he tried to drive away from authorities, he crashed into the car. Deputies said he then failed a field sobriety test and so they arrested him.
Adkins is charged with speeding, driving away from police, making an illegal U-Turn, leaving the scene of a crime, violating implied consent and driving on a revoked license, according to a release from authorities.
Officials said one person was injured in the crash. They were identified as Nicole Perry, 22, from New Market.
