TDOT: One lane open on I-81 South in Hamblen County after fire in tractor-trailer carrying furniture

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. — UPDATE(11 p.m.): Officials said one lane was back open for all traffic on the highway Tuesday night. Crews were continuing to clean up the incident by 10 p.m., according to TDOT officials.

UPDATE (8 p.m.): Officials said the left lane of I-75 South was opened around 7:45 p.m. Sunday night to let stuck traffic drive past the crash site.

The road was closed on I-81 South in Hamblen County Tuesday night, near the exit to Enka Highway. Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said a tractor-trailer carrying furniture had caught fire.

They said the truck was loaded with furniture and crews were working to pull it out as they extinguished the flames.

Traffic was being diverted at mile marker 12 on I-75 South so crews could work safely. 

Information about possible injuries or the cause of the fire was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
