KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Drivers on I-640 West may see traffic as construction work starts Monday night.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said starting at 7 p.m. on June 17, I-640 West will be reduced to one lane as crews prepare to shift traffic to the inside lanes near Exit 8. The department said by shifting lanes crews can begin the second phase of repairs on bridges over Washington Pike and Nora Road.

Work is expected to be done by 6 a.m. on June 18, but the schedule is contingent on weather conditions.

TDOT also warned drivers that delays could occur as crews work. They should also make sure to use extreme caution when driving through construction zones since workers will be present.

"As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and 'Know Before You Go!' by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel," said Mark Nagi on social media, a spokesperson for TDOT.
