KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation said Monday that a crash on I-40 East left a single lane open after the Papermill Drive exit, blocking traffic for miles.
As of around 4:20 p.m. EDT, all lanes are back open on I-40 East where the crash occurred.
The department said the crash was reported at around 3:28 p.m. Eastern Time, and blocked three of four lanes. Video footage from TDOT showed cars having to use the left-most lane of the five-lane highway to avoid emergency vehicles.
It also said the crash backed up traffic for miles to near Gallaher View Road and Bearden High School.
