TDOT: Alcoa Highway reopened after temporary closure, rolling roadblocks to take place

The highway has reopened after unstable rock at a nearby worksite caused northbound to close Tuesday morning, TDOT says.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Update (12:16 p.m.): Alcoa Highway northbound is back open near the University of Tennessee Medical Center, according to TDOT. 

Rolling roadblocks will occur in that area throughout Tuesday afternoon to allow for loose rock material to be removed.

Northbound is closed and traffic is diverted at John Sevier Highway in Knox County, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. 

The closure is due to unstable rock at a worksite on the highway, TDOT says,
