Study ranks Knoxville drivers among top 25 safest in the U.S. for 2021

At the top of list was Birmingham, Alabama for the city with the safest drivers.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville is known for many things. The Sunsphere is a part of its iconic landmark and its roads stretch through the city into the nearby mountains. And according to a new study from QuoteWizard, those roads have some of the country's safest drivers.

Experts ranked Knoxville 16th best in the nation for its drivers. They prepared a new study that analyzed data from insurance quotes across the U.S., ranking 70 cities according to four categories: accidents, DUIs, speeding and citations.

They found that Knoxville ranked lowest for speeding rates, with an overall rank of 54. The city's worst category was its accidents, ranked at 43 out of 70 on the list. Its citation rank was listed as 52 while its DUI rank was listed as 50.

The cities with the most incidents were rated the worst, while cities with the fewest incidents were rated the best.

They founded that cities with the most speeders are major metro areas with lots of traffic. However, smaller cities tended to have fewer speeding incidents. They also found cities with the highest DUI rates had some of the worst overall drivers.

The city with the safest drivers across the U.S. was listed as Birmingham, while the second safest was St. Louis.

Memphis was also listed as the fifth safest city, with a speeding rank of 64 out of 70.

The Vols may also need to work on their driving skills as they head to the College World Series. The list put Omaha as the worst driving city in the U.S. for 2021 and it also ranked worst in the nation for DUIs.
