KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — I-40 East near Papermill Drive is back open after being completely shut down to all eastbound traffic for more than two hours on Sunday evening. The multi-vehicle wreck occurred at Mile Marker 380, according to many local authorities.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, a pedestrian was hit and killed in the crash.
The Knoxville Fire Department posted about the "Significant" wreck on social media at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, advising those in the area to expect delays and find alternate routes such as Kingston Pike or Middlebrook if possible.
Soon after, a Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson also posted about the wreck, saying the road was closed due to a multi-vehicle crash. KPD also posted about the wreck and even shared some images.
