'Santa Hustle' road race could lead to traffic delays in Sevierville morning of Dec. 11

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — The Santa Hustle road race is scheduled to take place at 8:00 a.m. in downtown Sevierville on December 11. The race will start from Wilderness Resort on Old Knoxville Highway and will include parts of Highway 66 and the Parkway, bringing out runners for 5K and 10K races.

The race is not expected to lead to full road closures but could impact traffic with lane closures in the area. Those are expected to begin between 5:00 a.m. through 8:00 a.m. and end by 10:30 a.m.

A full list of roads impacted by the event is below.

  • Old Knoxville Highway (northbound travel lanes closed) between the Wilderness Resort and Gists Creek Road.
  • Gists Creek Road (eastbound travel lanes closed) between Old Knoxville Highway and Highway 66.
  • Highway 66 (southbound right travel lane closed) between Gists Creek Road and Main Street.
  • Forks of the River Parkway (southbound right travel lane closed) from Main Street to the Parkway.
  • Parkway (southbound right travel lane closed) from Forks of the River Parkway to 726 Parkway (NAPA Auto Parts), just north of Chilhowee Drive.

A spokesperson for Sevierville said crews would put out traffic cones and barricades marking areas affected by the event. They will be put up between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., and he said they should be removed by 10:30 a.m.

He also emphasized that motorists will still be allowed on the roads, but drivers should expect some significant delays. He encouraged drivers to avoid the event area and find alternative routes.
