Rural Metro: Crews spend more than 2 hours cutting away at concrete truck to free injured driver after serious crash

The crash happened on East Emory Road near Stormer Road, according to Rural Metro Fire.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Rural Metro Fire said Thursday it responded to the scene of a serious car crash involving an overturned concrete truck, according to a post on social media.

The post said the crash involved the concrete truck and an SUV. It also said when crews arrived, they found the driver of the overturned concrete truck trapped inside. Rural Metro said crews worked for around two-and-a-half hours to free the driver.

"They were literally being forced to cut the truck cab away piece by piece," Rural Metro said on social media. "Tough work under some pretty challenging conditions!"

Once pulled out, the driver was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for what seemed like non-life-threatening injuries, according to Rural Metro.

The crash happened on East Emory Road near Stormer Road. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the crash caused both north and southbound lanes to be closed.

Rural Metro said the road would be closed for several hours as crews attempt to upright the overturned truck. They said anyone driving to Gibbs or Corryton should seek alternate routes.

Additional information, such as the identity of anyone involved and the circumstances surrounding the crash, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
